How to install a Xiaomi Recovery ROM (system update package)

Before you start

• Use the ROM for your exact codename and region. Your current region is shown in the version string: for example …MIXM = Global, …EUXM = EEA, …INXM = India, …CNXM = China.
• Use the same or a newer version. Older ROMs are refused, and changing region from the phone usually requires a full wipe.
• Charge above 50% and back up your data.

Steps (HyperOS and MIUI 14 and later)

1. Copy the downloaded .zip to the phone, into the downloaded_rom folder in internal storage (create it if it isn’t there).
2. Open Settings → About phone and tap the large HyperOS (or MIUI) logo about 10 times until you see “Additional update features are on”.
3. Open System update (or tap the version box), then the ⋮ menu at the top right → Choose update package.
4. Select the .zip. The phone checks the file and asks to reboot. Confirm and wait.

Phone that won’t start: Mi Assistant mode

On many models you can install a recovery ROM through Mi Assistant (stock recovery → “Connect with MiAssistant”) using Xiaomi’s PC tools. If the phone boots to Fastboot only, use the Fastboot ROM for your device instead (see the Mi Flash guide).

If something goes wrong

• “Couldn’t verify update”: the file is for another device or region, or it was not downloaded completely — compare the MD5 checksum.
• “Can’t downgrade”: pick a version that is the same or newer than the one installed.
