How to install Lenovo phone and tablet firmware

Lenovo’s official tool for phones and tablets is Rescue and Smart Assistant (RSA). The packages listed here are the same files RSA downloads. Use RSA unless you know the flashing tool your device needs.

Before you start

  • Check your exact model on the back label or in Settings → About tablet (for example TB-X606F). F, X and L variants (Wi-Fi, LTE) use different firmware.
  • Back up. A rescue erases the device.
  • Charge above 50%.

Steps with Rescue and Smart Assistant (Windows)

  1. Install Rescue and Smart Assistant from Lenovo’s support site and sign in with a Lenovo ID.
  2. Click Rescue, select Tablet or Phone and enter your model.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to put the device in download mode (usually power off, then hold Volume Down while connecting USB).
  4. RSA downloads the matching firmware and installs it. Don’t disconnect until it says it is done.

Manual flashing

  • Packages for Qualcomm devices are usually flashed with QFIL (EDL mode); MediaTek devices with SP Flash Tool using the scatter file inside the package; newer devices with fastboot and a flashfile.xml. Use the method that matches the files inside the package.

If something goes wrong

  • RSA says the device is not supported: download the package here and use the flashing tool for your chipset.
  • Wrong variant: flashing LTE firmware on a Wi-Fi tablet (or the reverse) can break mobile data or Wi-Fi. Match the model exactly.
